CONSERVATION INSPIRED BY BEAUTY, DRIVEN BY KINDNESS.

BUILDING a LASTING legacy

Chem Chem Association is a registered non-profit organisation that operates within the Burunge Wildlife Management Area (BWMA) in northern Tanzania. Here, we are uniquely positioned to protect and preserve the Kwakuchinja Wildlife Corridor — a vital migratory pathway connecting the Tarangire and Lake Manyara national parks and their ecosystems.

From barren to bursting with life: click and drag the image to see the impact our conservation efforts have had on this landscape. Declared ‘abandoned’ by the Tanzanian government in 2009, the Kwakuchinja Wildlife Corridor (Corridor) became the cornerstone of our mission. Today, the Corridor is thriving. By restoring this vital migratory pathway, we have not only ensured the survival of a crucial ecosystem but also helped to empower the people who call the region home.

OUR mission

Our mission is to collaborate with key stakeholders, including the Tanzanian government, and engage with members of our communities as equal partners in conservation in order to pave the way to a sustainable model of conservation.

By working together, we can ensure the Kwakuchinja Wildlife Corridor, and by extension, the greater Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem, thrives for generations to come.

A STRATEGIC APPROACH TO CONSERVATION

Strategic conservation is essential for achieving long-term success. Since Chem Chem Association was established in 2008, our wildlife conservation and community empowerment efforts have been guided by comprehensive, multi-year strategies. These strategies have played a pivotal role in the restoration of the Kwakuchinja Wildlife Corridor. Building on this foundation, our future initiatives are guided by an overarching strategic goal: maintaining biodiversity within the Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem.

Biodiversity is the cornerstone of a healthy ecosystem, and every species plays a crucial role in upholding this delicate balance of nature. Loss of biodiversity is not just an environmental issue — it directly impacts the people who live within these areas by limiting access to fresh water and affecting food production. We’ve witnessed firsthand the effects of biodiversity loss, which has shaped our direction in the years to come: to not only protect wildlife and empower communities, but also to enhance the resilience of the entire ecosystem.

WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON

Conservation initiatives

Protecting wildlife for future generations

At the heart of our wildlife conservation success story is the restoration and long-term preservation of the Kwakuchinja Wildlife Corridor. Our Tanzania conservation initiatives focus on collaboration, state-of-the-art technology, and proactive response to illegal activities and incidents of human-wildlife conflict (HWC).
